Biblical counseling
How it works
Biblical counseling is the personal ministry of God’s Word to real-life problems. We listen carefully, apply Scripture to the heart, and help you grow in Christ through repentance, faith, and practical obedience. The goal is lasting change, not just symptom relief.
What is biblical counseling?
Biblical counseling is rooted in the timeless truths of Scripture. Unlike methods that blend secular psychology with spiritual language, we rely on the wisdom of the Bible. We seek to address life’s challenges by applying God’s Word, offering hope and direction that align with His teachings.
We believe Scripture is sufficient for the problems of the soul. Counseling is discipleship: speaking the truth in love under the authority of Christ and His church.
What is ACBC?
ACBC stands for the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors. It trains and certifies counselors who are committed to the sufficiency of Scripture. Certification is a rigorous process involving training, exams, and supervised counseling, so those who seek help can have confidence they are meeting with someone who is theologically sound, practically equipped, and accountable.
Who do you counsel?
Individuals, couples, and families facing marriage conflict, anxiety, anger, grief, pornography, parenting struggles, and other heart-level problems. Marriage counseling is a particular focus. Dave specializes in marriage; Jocelyn counsels women.
What does a session look like?
Sessions are typically 60–120 minutes. We gather information, identify the heart issues beneath the symptoms, open Scripture together, and assign practical homework so change continues between meetings. We meet in person or online, depending on location and circumstances.
Suggested donation
We ask for a suggested donation rather than charging fixed session fees. Cost should not keep anyone from getting the help they need—if finances are a concern, please tell us when you reach out. We do not bill insurance; biblical counseling is a ministry of the Word, not a medical service.
Confidentiality
What you share is confidential within biblical and legal limits. If there is clear danger of harm to yourself or others, or in cases of abuse involving a minor, we must take appropriate action. We also encourage involvement with your local church whenever wise.
How long will counseling take?
It varies. Some issues can be addressed in a handful of sessions; others take longer. We work toward clear goals and do not keep people in counseling indefinitely. Many counseling relationships last roughly twelve to sixteen sessions.
